Selected Rock Climbs in Belgium and Luxembourg

Belgium and Luxembourg

Published 1994. A5 format. 178 pages, 9 colour plates, 30 black and white illustrations, 16 maps and diagrams. Includes UK grades for all routes up to E5, pitch lengths, star ratings for all routes. The cliffs that line the River Meuse at Freyr form a spectacular series of fins of high quality limestone that jut from the hillside. Parking, camping and cafes at the top of the cliff make for a very civilized scene. Much of the limestone climbing in Belgium has long had a reputation for being polished. Although this is true of the great classics put up 50 years ago, many of the newer offerings have not yet suffered the same fate. Also it is worth saying that despite the gloss, the great classics are still well worth doing. The guidebook covers all the main limestone cliffs in Belgium and the superb sandstone at Berdorf, Luxembourg.

There have been access difficulties at Freyr over the years due to the cliffs great popularity especially with Dutch climbers. Generally UK climbers are welcome (visitors are still few and far between), the carrying of the Membership Card of any BMC affiliated climbing club will negate any potential difficulties.
