Chris Craggs: my guidebooks

The 1st guide I worked on with RockFax (or "The Guide that Broke the Mould"), to all of the best climbing on the ever popular Eastern Edges. The guide includes a selection of the best routes on Wharncliffe, Rivelin, Dovestone Tor, Bamford, Stanage, The Burbage Edges, Higgar Tor, Millstone Lawrencefield and Yarncliffe Quarries, Froggatt, Curbar, Gardoms, Birchen, Chatsworth and Cratcliffe, all crammed into one informative full colour volume. Now we have taken the concept but improved it and added a stack more routes.

INTRODUCTION: It had long been a dream of mine to collect all of the best routes on grit into a single volume, well this is half of it, exhaustively researched with both photo-topos and detailed descriptions. Unfortunately we couldn't get the whole of the Peak in so we had to produce Western Grit as well! This book includes the full spread of grades and a unique colour coding system enable you to tell at a glance which sections of any cliff are suitable according to your abilities, plus many of the new routes recorded since the last definitive volumes came out, some of them ten or more years ago.

900 of the best routes on the most popular cliff in the UK are be described in detail and illustrated in full Technicolor. On top of this a superb new set of maps has been drawn and all important descents are marked: finding you way around this superb cliff has never been easier.

From the slabby delights of Froggatt to the leaning horrors of Higgar Tor, all the great routes are in here, including many that have never appeared in print before. The regradings especially refers to many of the lower grade routes that have been poorly treated in the past. Every effort has been made to check with as many people as possible via the RockFax website so for once we have some consensus on the grades.
